Introduction // American holidays
Hi! My name is Kelsey. I come from America. I was born in California. My family lives in Tennessee. I went to school in Minnesota. I have lived in three states! I have also been to Japan before. I used to study in Osaka.
There are three other people in my family: my mother, my older brother, and my younger brother. My older brother is married and lives in Louisiana. He has a daughter and a son, so I also have a niece and a nephew. I have two aunts and two uncles too. They live in Texas and in Oregon. I enjoy both American and Japanese foods. In America, I like to eat salad and stir fry. In Japan, I like to eat sushi, takoyaki, and cold udon. It’s terrific! In college, I studied philosophy. I studied Japanese and Buddhism in Osaka two years ago. I enjoy reading books and studying languages. I ride my bicycle every weekday to school. I am happy to ride a bicycle in Japan. In America, I drive my car, but I don’t like driving. My hobby is playing drums. I really like music. I also enjoy aikido. What is your hobby? I want to learn Japanese, but I hope you will try to speak with me in English. Keep trying! America has many holidays. These are three of the most popular holidays: Thanksgiving Day – Thanksgiving Day is always the fourth Thursday in November. On this day, we have a big meal and think about the pilgrims who came and founded America. Christmas Day – Christmas is always on December 25th. Everyone likes to make their houses pretty with colored lights for this day. The evening before Christmas Day is called “Christmas Eve.” Before going to bed, children put out cookies and milk for Santa Claus. The next morning, everyone opens gifts from under the Christmas tree. New Year’s Day – We celebrate New Year’s Day at the end of the year, as the new year begins. We love to have big parties and kiss each other when the year starts. Often, everyone watches the television to see a large ball with lights drop at the top of a building in Times Square, New York. When it drops, the building lights up, and we know the new year has started.
